SEAWORLD BRINGS DE-OILED SEA TURTLES TO PARK’S REHABILITATION FACILITY

On Tuesday, July 20 SeaWorld transported 19 endangered green and Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles to the park’s rehabilitation facility for health issues directly related to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

SeaWorld’s Turtle Rescue Team transported the turtles from Gulf World Marine Park in Panama City Beach, Fla. where the animal and veterinarian staff have been working to clean and de-oil the animals.

They are in stable condition but require extensive treatment before their eventual return to the wild. SeaWorld veterinarians examined the animals upon arrival at SeaWorld’s Rescue & Rehabilitation Center.

This is the second wave of oil-impacted turtles SeaWorld has received in the past few weeks. Twelve Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles arrived from Gulfport, Mississippi when a facility there needed to make room for oiled animals. SeaWorld aquarists returned five of them to waters off southwest Florida on July 8 and four more have been cleared for release.

SeaWorld is one of the few organizations with the expertise to tend to the special needs of multiple sea turtle species including both greens and Kemp’s Ridley.

The park is a global leader in the rescue and rehabilitation of sea turtles. The park’s Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation Team is in on call 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

-- SeaWorld --

Not all rescued animals are able to be released back into the wild. Some of them have injuries that would prevent them from ever being able to survive on their own. Some of the lucky ones find permanent homes at places like Sea World. The money is important because it helps support the care of these animals & research. Thank you Sea World for all the work that you do!

This is a great thing you guys are doing this is the sort of career i hope to have once i get older!
If there is any way i could volunteer there i would appreciate to hear back from you!
thanks, melissa

I am so happy our endangered green sea turtles and Kemp Ridley turtles are getting the help they need from the horrific oil spill...thank you so much for all you do!!! God Bless you for helping his creatures!!!

This is for all the close minded people who don't under stand what it is that SeaWorld does!
I have been going to SeaWorld sents I was a kid and now take my son all the time. The animals that are not freeed are the ones that can not survive on there own in the wild! Some are born at SeaWorld and do not know how to survive on there own! Why would they set them all free if they can't SURVIVE ON THERE OWN IN THE WILD???
I love SeaWorld!!!

u guys are amazing i think u guys are great im only 10 and i think u are going to make a big difference in the world of amazing, beatiful, intelligent animals

Good work but when all is said and done it's about money, not animal welfare. If you really love your animals set them them all free...please.

You people ROCK!!!!!
